Sales Director

Indiana Packers Corporation (IPC) is a fully integrated retail, foodservice and private label producer of fresh and processed meats based in Delphi, Indiana (near Lafayette, Indiana). Summary:

This role is responsible for developing sales strategy, execution of sales plans and pipeline monitoring to increase sales, aligning & engaging the sales team to implement the strategy and to maximize planned sales volume and gross profit contribution potential for IPC. Directs and oversees retail and food service channel sales and policy, objectives, and initiatives. Sets short-term and long-term channel sales strategies and evaluates effectiveness of current programs. Recommends product or service enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential.

Oversees and manages pricing and margin management. Coordinates with operations and S&OP team on breakeven and build back primal values. Makes recommendations for make sheet optimization. Manages and oversees customer pricing models and performance and implements policy and changes for optimal margin opportunities. Manages freezer inventory and recommends and manages freezer put down strategies in concept and application.

Key Priorities of Successful Candidate in First 12 Months:

Demonstrates margin growth across both the retail and food service channels. Demonstrates an acumen for people and process management. Participates in creating sales KPI's and develops tools to manage KPI performance. Recommends motivational compensation programs for successful execution against sales KPI's. Demonstrates a consultative style relationship with sales managers.


Responsibilities:

  • Establish compensation plans for all sales personnel including salary structures and bonus plans in coordination with VP of HR and President. Provide direction for sales training. Mentors & manages sales talent, with focus on building high performing sales professionals.
  • Develop and manage the company's retail and food service sales activities including hiring and supervision of sales team, margin enhancement and improvement. Manages broker network and strategy, development of sales budgets, forecasting, customer promotions, and product introduction.
  • Collaborate with VP of Sales to develop an annual operating plan as well as long-term strategy for the retail and food service channels.
  • Works with field sales directors to develop new customers across all channel segments to grow company revenues.
  • Assist sales in the develop and maintain meaningful customer relationships.
  • Analyze sales data and additional market information to identify customer needs and potential sales volume.
  • Communicate with cross-functional team including Marketing, Finance, and Operations to provide competitive information as well as field-based recommendations for future products margin improvements and initiatives.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Agricultural Economics, Animal Science or related field or demonstrated equivalent knowledge and experience required.
  • Master's in business, animal science or economics preferred.
  • 8 + years experience in fresh pork sales, pricing and primal optimization in fresh pork.
  • In-depth knowledge of retail and food service channel sales and strong history of customer relationship management, including a proven track record of building programs and pricing models for maintaining new and existing business with strategic customers.
  • Effective communicator and negotiation skills.
  • Strong customer & broker management capabilities.
  • Ability to use independent judgment, creativity, presentation skills, and problem analysis.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and execute multiple projects.
  • Strong work ethic with a bias for action, performance management. Must have an "only the results matter" mentality.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Self-motivated & goal oriented.
  • Ability to work under pressure, multi-task & prioritize work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and business analytic tools.

Supervisory Responsibility: Six direct reports.

Work Environment

This job operates in an office and plant environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. While performing the duties of the job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to temperatures, strong odors, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the plant environment can be loud. The successful candidate must be able to navigate both the plant & office environments.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
